Title: Tales of the Alliance, being five stories of Ivanova the Strong and Delenn the Wise

Author: vjs2259

Length: ~1800 words

Description: I have long wanted a glimpse at the Ranger's illuminated manuscript as shown in The Deconstruction of Falling Stars. I decided it would be a history told in tales, concise and wise...in short, fables.

Title: B5 Tweets!
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vjs2259
Description: What it says on the tin.
Pairings: John/Delenn, Jeff/Catherine, Marcus/fantasy!Susan, a hint of Londo/G'Kar, a smidgeon of Susan/Delenn, and many, many friendships
Rating: PG for innuendo? Not really, more of a hard G :)
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] nenya_kanadka. Thanks much for the Tweet Tutorial!

There's a bit of a story in there, probably a Season of No Shadows tale, but mostly just vignettes. Hard to say if there are spoilers since it's a bit AU-ish, especially the last bit. For the whole show, we'll say, just to be safe.

Title and Link: Permission Slip

Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: John/Delenn
Spoilers/Warnings: AU Season 2. Make of it what you will.
Standard disclaimer applies; not my characters or settings or backgrounds. But they are my words.

Author's Note: This story is set in my Season of No Shadows AU. In which there are no Shadows, none, and everyone's in love with someone.

I split today's entry into two posts, fearful LJ would choke on it. :)

Part One from Monday is here. It examines The Fool, and the first 11 cards of the Major Arcana.

Part Two goes into some background on the meaning of the suits, and on Londo's cards in 'The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari.'

Part Three finishes the Major Arcana.

All posts are image-heavy. Credits for text not mine is in Part One. Credits for pictures are alongside or below the picture. Uncredited pictures are from Wikipedia, and are of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. Spoilers for all five seasons of Babylon Five.

This is a long essay, with loads of pictures, broken into two parts to save my sanity. The second part will be posted Wednesday, 8/10/11.

Spoilers for everything, and I've hit all the major characters and several minor ones. Rated G for Godthat'salottameta.

Title: Anoikis (homelessness)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] vjs2259

Character(s): Lyta Alexander

Rated: G

Word Count: ~270

Warnings: mid-Season 5, Phoenix Rising

Author's Note:  I heard the concept of anoikis discussed in a lecture, and the word stuck in my head. Being who I am, I (almost) immediately thought of Babylon 5. :)

from The Wiki: The word Anoikis was coined by Frisch and Francis in a paper published in the Journal of Cell Biology in 1994. Anoikis, in their words, means "(...the state of being without a home) to describe the cells' apoptotic response to the absence of cell–matrix interactions."

This is my first icon post, for the free-for-all day for [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love  month. The caps are from some kind soul whose information I forgot to record (my very, very bad...I'm still trying to backtrack and find the original download link), all from Sleeping in Light. The words, except for some one or two word captions, and the B5 quotes, are from poetry relating to the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. Including Ovid's Metamorpheses, Pope's Ode for St. Cecilia's Day, Swinburne's Eurydice, Jorie Graham's Orpheus and Eurydice, H.D.'s Eurydice. This was set off by reading [livejournal.com profile] abracax 's Closer fic, Eurydice.

I am very new to this, so illegible text and strange lighting is to be expected.
Gratias vobis ago.

The rest are here.

Title: Memory and Hope

Author: [livejournal.com profile] vjs2259

Pairing: John Sheridan/Anna Keller

Rating: G

Spoilers: Well, if you didn't know about Anna already I guess there are some. Set in 2244.

Summary: Losing, and Finding, Home

Standard disclaimer applies; not my characters or settings or backgrounds. But they are my words.

Author's Note:

This is by and large made up stuff, tied to canon as best I could, but really, there isn't much there there. Started by two things, a request for John/Anna by [livejournal.com profile] nolivingman  a few years ago (sorry about the delay) and the only comment about John's mother we hear in canon. Unbeta'd and missing two-three scenes, but I think it works without them.

Rated: G
Summary: A secret is discussed.

[identity profile] vjs2259.livejournal.com

My day again. I've barely participated beyond writing and posting, and for that my apologies. I hope to catch up on the entries soon; there have been so many wonderful things posted. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ruuger for doing this. I've enjoyed each and every year.

I wanted to sub-title this The Joy of Sex, because laughter really is one of the bedrocks of sexual attraction. But it is rated G, and I didn't want to tease y'all. ;)

Title: The Pink Principle

Rating: G

Disclaimer: Standard disclaimer applies; not my characters or settings or backgrounds. But they are my words.

Warnings: Innuendo...mucho innuendo

Beta: My husband [profile] this_is_r kindly read this over for typos, etc. But I've fooled with it since then.
Spoilers: Yes, for S2 in many, many ways. Gapfiller for Acts of Sacrifice

Author’s Note:

Extremely loosely inspired by the 1974 British comedy No, Honestly, which starred John Alderton and Pauline Collins as C.D. and Clara Danby, and was based on the books by Charlotte Bingham. It was my favorite show my first year in college. Two lines were out and out stolen from the first episode of the series, at least as my memory of it goes. Mea culpa.

Also indirectly related to last year's [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love entry, the Racing Mars gapfiller Diplomatic Relations, which was written in a wicked fun collaboration with [livejournal.com profile] abracax .

Inspirational credit also goes to [personal profile] un_crayon_rouge who wanted to know when Ivanova found out.

[identity profile] vjs2259.livejournal.com
Second entry, and a traditional J/D piece. There are pictures above the linked text if you'd care to see some of my inspiration. ~1300 words.

Never Alone

[identity profile] vjs2259.livejournal.com
This is a gapfiller for A Geometry of Shadows/A Distant Star, rated G, ~2000 words. It is an attempt to fill in some background, and (mostly? totally?) out of my own head. Inspired partly by the quote that starts the story; which is John and Susan talking at the end of A Distant Star. Further inspiration from [livejournal.com profile] nolivingman , from some time or another when we were talking Drazi. The link goes to my journal.

Quotations used at the end of the story are by Alexander Pope (Susan's) and Louis Pasteur (Delenn's). Please don't ask me why the Minbari have a traditional proverb originally said by Louis Pasteur. Blame Valen if you must have an explanation.

From Time to Time

[identity profile] vjs2259.livejournal.com

Part III and the end.

Three Quarter Time

Part I: Closed Position (J/D, mid-Season 3, rated G)

Part II: Incentive Program (J/D, Season 4, Rising Star, rated PG)

Part III: The Last Dance (J/D, post Season 5, rated G)

All stars stand close in summer air
And tremble, and look mild as amber;
When wicks are lighted in the chamber
You might say stars were settling there.”

Leonie Adams

Standing in the dark garden outside the brightly lit room was an elderly woman. She was clad in a simple white robe, with a hood covering her now grey and thinning hair. Music spilled out into the warm night, and she watched as the couples moved in precise steps and turns. Minbari did not dance, but the Alliance had many members who did, and occasionally a formal reception ended with practice of the art.

Stars filled the night sky, performing their own celestial dance, turning around some central point of the galaxy. Many beings had tried to locate that place, but none had succeeded so far. The stars looked so close this time of year, like candleflames shining against the dark fabric of space. You are the brightest star in my sky, he had told her when he had left her. The stars may seem close enough to touch, but they remain out of reach, isolate and burning, consuming themselves until they fail and fade.

Earlier in her life, she had danced. Even after he had gone, she would go to the parties, the diplomatic functions, and participate in the ritual. Never would she accept a partner for the last dance of the evening. Unfailingly polite, she declined so graciously that no one was ever offended. They were only curious when they saw her smile, full of secrets and hidden pain. She knew the map of her sky, and the location of her heart. Keeping faith, she would watch and wait; and she would always, always save the last dance.

[identity profile] vjs2259.livejournal.com

Part II, for your reading pleasure. (The icon is a bit of a tease, btw, it's only PG.)

Three Quarter Time

Part I: Closed Position (J/D, mid-Season 3, rated G)

Part II: Incentive Program (J/D, Season 4, Rising Star, rated PG)

"I’ll always remember the song they were playing
The first time we danced and I knew;
As we swayed to the music and held to each other
I fell in love with you.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together it feels so right;
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?"
Anne Murray

Part III: The Last Dance (J/D, post Season 5, rated G)
