Fanfic: Walls (G'Kar/Lyta, gen)

So, today is my posting day again. And this time I bring to your attention the small story. Yeah, it is about Narns again. I'm Narnophile, it's time to admit it.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] natoth
Title: Walls
Rating: G
Pairing: G'Kar/Lyta
Time: during events of "Objects at Rest", 5th season.
Disclaimer: All characters (and some phrases) do not belong to me. Babylon 5 and its characters are the property of J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Brothers Television. No copyright infringement is intended.
Note from author: This story is a rough sketch, but, probably, it becomes a part of the big fic. More precisely, this fic already exists in my plan, I should overcome only my laziness and to write it on a paper.
As English is not my native language I apologize for the possible mistakes admitted in the text, and I'm very grateful to my valorous beta-readers and translators [livejournal.com profile] tigerofsiberia and [livejournal.com profile] sib_koshik who have helped me to translate and edit this story.

G'Kar silently came into the cell where Lyta Alexander was held. He stared at her closely, bowing his head. They held her in a strait jacket and he was surprised a little, once he has seen it. This small woman had strength of some different kind and it was rather... futile to attempt limiting this power in such a way.
"Hello, Lyta."
"G'Kar."
She looked at him intently.
"Don’t you mind if I talk to you?" - he asked politely, approaching closer.
"If only you are not disturbed by the accomodations", - Lyta told venomously, smiling wryly.
He shrugged shoulders and smiled back.
"It's a cell. I got used to them. Frankly, I've done some of my best writing in places like this. In such a place you can't run from yourself. Here you will find out truth, sooner or later... So... I assume they told you about my offer?"
She nodded, then looked at him with weak grin.
"Yes. Well, G'Kar, it really makes sense. Because of my growing abilities I can not go home, but I can not stay here, either. So... I may go with you just as well."
She shrugged and smiled.
"It's so ironic! You have to leave, because everybody wants you, they are fighting over you!"
She grinned bitterly and shrugged.
"And I... I have to leave, because nobody needs me."
He remained oddly serious and stared at her.
"However we are very much alike in many ways. We are all the sum of our tears. Too little of them, and the ground is not fertile, and nothing can grow there, you see? Too much of them, and the best of what we have is washed away. My rains have come and gone already. Yours are just beginning."
Lyta listened to his words thoughtfully. Her telepathic abilities really grew every day and she had not time to get used to her constantly varying perception of the world. In the past, when she was the P5, reading others’ thoughts took serious concentration from her, but now... now she could see people through. She saw all their most secret thoughts, all secrets of their souls. Like if the people were made of a transparent glass. And sometimes... Sometimes she felt how they would act in the nearest future.
The telepath always hears voices. The mind-background of some sort. It disappears only when telepath sleeps. The telepath should keep his mind-block constantly, just not to go mad... constantly should build a wall between himself and this world.
She should build a huge wall to avoid seeing the true essence of people around her. Very thick and high wall. That tired her most of all things.
Lyta forced herself to pull together and looked at the Narn.
What is hidden behind his offer? How much is he fair with her? Whether her fears are true?
She cautiously removed one layer of her protection and mentally pulled to him, trying to understand his true motives...
She should ask leading questions. This will make him to open up faster.
"So, any idea where we'll go, G'Kar?"- she asked, smiling relaxed.
"No, - he answered, - That's what makes it so exciting."
She sniffed mistrustfully.
"I don't think I'd choose that word for it, but it beats being stuck here anyway. So I appreciate the offer, even though I know this isn't entirely for my benefit."
She decided to attack first and taken off one more barrier from her mindblock. A Narn's mind was always very hard for Human perception. She knew that majority of commercial telepaths did not like to make contact to the Narns. Staying in their mind was a very difficult job.
As she expected, her question caused a whole outburst of emotions in G'Kar.
"I don't know what you're..." - he said obviously offended by her words.
She grinned and approached him closer, scanning his mind cautiously, eliminating superfluous emotions, so-called emotional background, in searches of the truth.
"G'Kar, come on. I'm essential to your getting your hands on the Telepath's DNA. Certainly you've got a vested interest in my staying close to you."
He raised his brow ridge and asked cautiously, not averting his glance from her.
"That's why you think I'm doing this? just that, my own personal interests?"
She felt the sharp and hot wave arising within him. Lyta knew a nature of this emotion. Passion... Thirst of possession... Admiration and a sexual desire... he really was keen on her till now... This fact amused her.
"Well... Yeah."
Then she cautiously tried to penetrate more deeply into his consciousness so that he would not felt it. The Narns were especially sensitive for such intrusions, and she had seen how roughly they might react to such digging in their brains.
G'Kar looked at her and replied chilly:
"Therefore my decision was even more correct than I had imagined."
She was still mentally reaching out to him, trying to find an opening which would lead her deeper in the twisted and dark Narn's mind, as suddenly she felt that she could not break though something. Like if she run into a stone wall, smashing.
What happened?
Lyta could not understand that and tried to make the way through his mind again.
G'Kar stepped back to the door. Tall, straight, proud.
"I'll see to it that your belongings are transferred to my ship when we are ready to leave, - he said calmly and added, - Meanwhile, consider the walls around you. In a little while, we will leave these behind. Now you will have to decide how many others you will bring with you when we leave."
He turned to leave.
Suddenly, Lyta felt choking. What happened? Why she could not read his mind?!
How has he learned about...
Fury and surprise given determination to her, and she tried once again to overcome the strange barrier which emerged in his mind. She pushed more strongly, risking to cause a pain to him. But she should find out, why...
"Stop it."
Lyta's eyes widened in amazement, once she has heard this so familiar voice.
She heard quiet singing and rustle like if huge wings begun to clap somewhere.
"Kosh!" - she called out mentally, having recognized this voice, feeeling the presence familiar to her, - Kosh! I was right, I knew, that you were alive! I knew, that you would come to me... I believed, in spite of ..."
"No," - the voice replied silently.
Lyta taken off all blocks in a desperate desire to see him. She wanted so much to see him again.
"Kosh!" - she called again, trying to reach him.
Now she saw a light shining in G'Kar's eyes.
He said, going to exit:
"How many other walls you will bring with you when we leave, Lyta?"
She narrowed her eyes, not understanding who exactly has spoken to her right now.
"Where are you, Kosh? I searched for you, but I never imagined that there was one more host except for Sheridan... I'll go with him, I'll go with him anywhere, just do not leave me back again!" - she whispered, feeling his moving away and their bond breaking again.
"We have always been here. We always cared for you. We cared for all of you. Even now."
His voice, such dear and desired voice began to fade.
" Can I hope for one more meeting, Kosh?" - Lyta asked, trembling from her excitement.
"Possible", - answered the Vorlon.
Lyta wanted to burst out crying, but has managed to pull herself together.
She came round and saw G'Kar looking at her steadfastly.
Lyta gulped, feeling her heart was ready to jump out from her chest.
"See you soon, Lyta Alexander."
"See you soon, G'Kar," - she whispered.
See you soon, Kosh...
