Day 19 - Zack Allan - B5 Everyman
Feb. 19th, 2019 12:22 amZack Allan – Babylon 5’s everyman
Zack Allan was a regular guy. He was on the statipon because Garibaldi gave him a second chance – I am not sure what his problem had been but I think it might have been drugs and alcohol.
Babylon 5 was his salvation. He began working security and worked his way up to head security on the station.
I always felt that he was regular guy – he was just a working stiff. He wasn’t fancy or educated. He wasn’t military either. He’s a simple guy who got mixed up in addiction and kicked it. He got his second chance and appreciated it. He was the guy you’d look at and say, if he could do it, so could I. He fell for the BS of the Nightwatch for a while but his loyalty and belief in right and wrong won out in the end. He had a huge crush on Lyta Alexander and we all knew that Lyta would have eaten a guy like Zack alive. But we still rooted for him to get a date with her.
He was a good guy, dependable, solid, the person who’d be there if they said they would, who never got much credit and didn’t need it but did speak up and say what was on his mind. He wasn’t an ambassador, a soldier or a leader. He was solid and good… and that’s all he needed to be.
I always think fondly of him and will leave you with a quote: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you."

There was a great fic I read awhile ago that was Zack/Byron - ahahah yes, I know, but bear with me here - that had Zack's vice being gambling. I thought it was a good fit for his character, and there was a lot of fantastic Zack character exploration. If you're/anyone else is interested, it's Nostalgia Couldn't Take Care Of Its Own by the highly recommended eye_of_a_cat.
Anyway, these are great Zack thoughts, thanks for sharing them!!
