Fanmix - Together In The Dark

babylon5_lovePlease accept this IOU for one (1) Babylon 5 vid -- my aging computer has finally decided that vidding is no longer within its capabilities, and decided to crash every time I laid a clip down on the timeline. *sigh* Instead, I present to you one (1) fanmix, consisting of several songs I would vid if I could and several others I had never thought of vidding before but probably could if I put my mind to it. (That is the point of a mix, right? To make a list of songs you don't have time to vid so they'll stop bothering you?)
Some general notes first. When I started compiling this mix I thought it was a seasn four mix, but on reflection, I realized what it really was was a bunch of songs about people's relationships, and not necessarily romantic ones, either. Character is really Babylon 5's greatest strong point, and not only individual characters, but the ways they interact, and the strength and fragility of their relationships. As such, every song here is for at least two people, and sometimes several more, depending on how complicated a tangle their relationships are in.

I've often thought that this would make an excellent general B5 vid, but in this context, I think of it mostly for Vir and Lennier, their odd little not-conversation they have in season four, and their incredibly fucked-up relationships with their friends and employers.

Ah, Londo. This one is all season five Londo, not ready to ask for help until it's much, much too late. He has that problem a lot.

to test the rope he'll slip around my throat and silence me
Really, it is Bester's fault that Sheridan's captured and tortured...he just did it by proxy, is all. Garibaldi pulls himself out of it for a bit -- he gets Sheridan to forgive him -- but then he loses it again.
The Endless - Ache

do I still have substance when I am out of your view
When I was in high school, I thought Marcus and Ivanova's relationship was terribly romantic. Now I tend to think of Marcus as a little cowardly and selfish. He was in love with her. He just failed to do anything good about it.
Norah Jones - Carnival Town
Did the clown
Make you smile
He was only your fool for a while
Londo and G'Kar come to some kind of odd detente in season five. They might even be friends, although it's hard to tell.
Tori Amos - China
you're right next to me
but I need an airplane
I can feel the distance as you breathe
Another odd, sticky relationship, Susan and Talia appear to be lovers who aren't really friends, negotiating around each other's weak places and trying not to break anything.
Hootie & The Blowfish - Hold My Hand
I'll take you to the promised land
maybe we can't change the world but
I wanna love you the best that, the best that I can
John and Delenn always get such angsty songs, I thought they deserved a happy one, as they're easily the happiest relationship in the show. <3
The Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism
it's not the way I'm meant to be
it's just the way the operation made me
Lyta is angry after Byron's death. Angry, and a walking thermonuclear weapon. Really, I think Byron was just a convenient excuse to let out a lot of anger that had been building for a while.

Delenn didn't really mean to start a war, Neroon...probably thinks he's going to be reincarnated as a human before going to hell, and Dukhat just wanted to see what else was out there. They all did their best to fix their mistakes (except for Dukhat, who was dead at the time).

Because I just have to share, because I love music that reminds me of characters, I'll toss out These Days by Nico (Londo, near death), Elaborate Lives from Aida (John and Delenn, not an angsty song lol), Stay With You by the Goo Goo Dolls (Lennier) and Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet Suite by Prokofiev (Cartagia) (love me some classical music, haha, we played this in orchestra a few years back and all I could think of was Cartagia. Nerds: we never rest XD
